With this procedure, also known as gingivoplasty, the contours of the soft gum tissues surrounding the
teeth are reshaped to conform with the shape of the teeth and the smile. Thanks to gingivoplasty,
which is one of the most important procedures in creating ‘tooth-gingiva aesthetics’, the excess gum
tissue is removed using a laser, scalpel or cautery and more tooth exposure is obtained
Aesthetic
gingival contouring is crucial to achieving the critical “showing a sufficient amount of teeth” and
“tooth-lip-gingival line harmony” in a beautiful smile.
This procedure is generally applied for aesthetic purposes, as well as for periodontal diseases where gingival tissue is lost or to relieve tooth sensitivity that may occur due to traumatic tooth brushing and clenching habit (bruxism).
Gingivoplasty Procedure
Since this procedure, which is planned with a detailed clinical examination, is a surgical application, the planned area is anesthetized with local anesthesia. At Meric Dental Clinic, we often use electrocautery throughout the treatment to make the experience for our patients relatively comfortable. After the procedure, which is completely painless, some discomfort may be felt in the area where the anesthesia is performed. Depending on how many teeth need to be applied, the gingivoplasty procedure might take 30 to 45 minutes.
